the first thing you will want to do is consult the vehicle owners manual to determine the proper towing procedure for your 2001 Honda Accord. From what I could find, the vehicle can be flat towed but has not been formally tested.

To flat tow a vehicle you will need base plates, a tow bars, safety cables, a lighting solution, and supplemental braking.

First, you can use base plates # 1545-1. The base plates provide a safe and secure attachment point for the tow bar. For a compatible tow bar, you can use the Stowmaster, # RM-501, that you have referenced. I have included links to the isntallation details and a video review for you.

Next, you will need safety cables. The safety cables are needed just in case the tow bar becomes uncoupled from the towing vehicle. Use coiled cables # RM-643. The coiled design prevents the cables from touching the ground.

next you will need a lighting solution for the Accord. If you do not plan on towing it very often, the best bet is a magnetic light kit, # RM-2120. Or, if you will be towing it often, use a diode kit, # RM-154. I have included a link to a video showing a typical diode installation.

Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Even Brake # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. Proportional systems are the safest way to stop and they reduce wear and tear on both vehicles.
