Replacing 10K AL-KO 12-1/4 x 5 Inch Electric Brake Assemblies on Trailer

Question:

i have tandem hayes 10K axles. where could i find complete backing plates w/brakes, 2 R, 2L. the ones i have are electric. i can find the 3 1/2, but not the 5.

We do have 12-1/4 x 5 inch electric drum brake assemblies available, however we have found that with higher-rated assemblies like these the AL-KO units aren't able to be easily swapped with other brands.

The etrailer.com Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-12 might work well but it features a 7 bolt pattern, which likely doesn't match up to the mounting flanges on your AL-KO axles. If this is the case you will need to try and weld the brake backing plate directly to the flange for them to work as replacements.

Unfortunately AL-KO is no longer in business so doing this or replacing the entire axles are your only options.
