Question:
I was happy to find the posted question Tow Package Wiring Location for Brake Controller Install - 2016 GMC Canyon which is my issue at present. I have a Canyon 2008, unfortunately after removing the kick plate ... no wiring!. Where is it hiding? I do have a 7 prong connector installed fully wired. I did find a little box under/near the rear fender with 7 or 8 wires going in and 4 coming out...not sure if it has anything to do with the connector. I have a trailer that I would use for my work but with no brakes...its around 4000 lbs with all my equipment. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks

The brake controller wiring on your 2008 GMC Canyon is actually hiding under your dash. It will be to the left of the steering column and above the brake pedal. This can sometimes be difficult to find, but, you'll know it because it will be held together by a white tag. If you take a look at the linked install video of a brake controller being installed on a similar model year Canyon you can see where you need to look.
You will then be able to wire in a brake controller on your 2008 GMC Canyon like the outstanding Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR or the more cost-effective Curt TriFlex # C24VV, for which you'd also need the Wiring Adapter for Curt Trailer Brake Controllers # C51515.
Another option is to completely forego that wiring and install the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller # C51180. To use this brake controller on your '08 Canyon you would only need to plug it into your truck's factory 7-way. That's it - no wires, no unit taking up space inside your cab; you just download its app, plug it into your connector, use the app to set it up and move on.
