Question:

Can you recommend a locking hitch pin for this 5th wheel hitch in the pin position that locks the hitch to the goose neck ball. I see this as the only way to lock the 5th wheel hitch to the truck. Do you have any other recommendations for locking the hitch to the truck? Thanks!

I reached out to my contact at Demco regarding security options for the Recon 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM8550045-5W. He said while they don't offer anything for this purpose they are perfectly okay with somebody using a locking hitch pin in place of the coupler pin that's installed to secure the base to the gooseneck ball. The included pin features a 1/2 inch diameter and 4 inch length so you will need something that matches those dimensions.

The closest option we have available comes with the Fastway Trailer Hitch Lock Set # FA86-00-3660. One of the locking pins included features a 1/2 inch diameter and usable span of 3-7/8 inches so it should work great for this application.

Another potential solution, albeit a bit larger of an investment, is to add a tonneau cover to your Ram that will protect anything inside the bed when the tailgate is closed and locked. If this is something you're interested in I will be happy to make a recommendation if you can tell me what size bed you have.
