Question:
I recently installed this 31180 front hitch on my 2000 toyota tundra. I was just wondering what the hoops on each side of the hitch can be used for and what strength rating they have if any. Are they functional such for tie down of the vehicle or other tasks??? I know straight line heavy pulling would be done from the center of the hitch I just trying to figure out why they welded these hoops on the hitch on both sides?

The tow loops on the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 31180 are recovery points that you can hook a tow strap to like part # EM59700 and pull yourself out with if you ever get stuck. They are rated for 9,000 lbs each just like the receiver tube. If you don't want to use these tow loops then we have the Curt Forged Tow Hook part # C45500 which will allow you to use the receiver tube opening to pull yourself out with.
The other option you have is to install a front mount winch like the ComeUp Cub ATV Winch w/ Mounting Plate for 2" Hitches part # CU123933.
