Do Meyer Snow Plows Require Lots Of Hardwiring In Truck? What About Wireless Options?

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 10/21/2025

Question:

Do these need a lot of wiring inside the truck? I don’t love messing with electrical stuff.

Allen, not much at all - it really depends on which HomePlow or WingMan you go with.

The Meyer HomePlow # ME28FR comes with a wired auto-angling controller, but it can also run with Meyer’s optional wireless kit if you’d rather skip the cable altogether. The Meyer HomePlow # ME88FR includes only the wireless setup from the factory, so it raises, lowers, and auto-angles with just a handheld fob - no wiring through the firewall.

If you step up to the higher end hydraulic HomePlow # ME53FR or the WingMan # ME35FR, those use Meyer’s pistol-grip Power Angling controller - a heavy-duty in-cab unit with full control over lift and angle. It’s one quick-connect harness to the battery and a plug-in lead for the controller, nothing complicated. Instructions lay it out really well and all connections are either plug in style, or use the pre-installed ring terminal for the battery connections.

Even if wiring’s not your thing, these are some of the easiest setups on the market. Do you think you can tackle it yourself?

So if I start with the ME28FR wired setup, can I add the wireless controller later?

@Allen Absolutely, Allen. The wireless control kit plugs right into the existing actuator harness - no rewiring or controller swap needed. You can just use Wireless Receiver and Key Fob # ME59FR.

@AndrewN How far away does the wireless remote work? I’ve seen some remotes lag in cold weather.

@Dale Hey there Dale. The Meyer wireless system uses a fob that works reliably within about 50 ft, even in sub-zero temps. It’s designed for in-cab use, and there’s basically no delay once it syncs.
