Question:
Keystone 5th Wheel: 2008 Montana Mountaineer Model 28MR285RLD08 I blow the 30 amp fuse when I extend the legs for more than 10 seconds at a time. When I checked the 12 vDC motor, it can be moved 1/2inch in any direction. All of its screws are tight. Is this normal? In the Montana Users forum, they talk about replacing the landing gear motor 7,140 RPM with another one that has more torque but a slower speed 5500 rpm. I am not sure if I am dealing with a landing leg problem, a motor problem, a reduction gear housing problem, or a loose connection of the motor and reduction gear to the landing leg problem. I am inclined to replace both the motor and the reduction gear first but dont know the catalog numbers of these two parts. Here is the information that I was able to obtain from the current parts: Landing gear motor: Model 1-065-041012-01. 12 vDC, 3.1 A ROT: CW, Speed 7,140 rpm. Attached to the motor is another part: Part No. 125340, Model 1A065012-02-01 SN 00432. The reduction gear part number was partially obscured by paint VMC940?B-2821??. The part number under the cap of the landing leg that does not have the motor attached to it is VMC900L-314787. Hope this information helps you to help me. Thanks,

There will be some play in the landing gear motor yes, this is normal and not anything to be worried about. The first thing you are going to want to do is manually operate the jack leg. If there is any resistance within the leg then it will need to be replaced with part # LC178653 for the lead leg or part # LC178652 for the follow leg. If there is not any resistance then take a multimeter and test for power at the motor. If you don't have at least 12 volts then you have a wiring/ground problem or the trailer battery is bad.
If you do have 12 volts or close at the motor then most likely the motor and or gearbox is bad. For replacement, we have the 5,500 RPM model part # LC142178 that you referenced or the 7,140 RPM model part # LC141893 that you have now. Then for the gear box we have the Replacement Gearbox for Venture Aluminum Electric 5th Wheel RV Landing Gear Assemblies part # LC276602 which is correct.
