Removal of Starlock Washer on Solera Gas Strut

How to remove starlock washer from gas strut - How do you remove the starlock to remove the faulty piston.

I reached out to the manufacturer who told me there isn't any type of recommended way to remove the starlock washer on the Solera Gas Strut # LC260282 but that "most people shim something behind, hit and tap it with a screwdriver to pry it open/loose."
I was told that doing this should allow the washer to come off pretty easily.
