If you reach your kayaking destination you can leave the Malone QuickLash T-Style Hood Loops for Bow/Stern Tie-Downs # MPG308 in place as you will be re-using them again making your return trip. Once you get home, however, they should be removed.
The reason is if you are using these and something like the Thule Hull-A-Port Aero # TH849000 to carry your kayaks, the Quick Loops will not have any slack on them when not in use and if you are using them at the front they could potentially be lost with normal, everyday driving; if you use them at the rear of the vehicle they may fall out if your vehicle has a rear hatch (as opposed to a trunk).
If you wanted something more permanent, take a look at the Thule Hood Loop # TH529. This loop attaches to a bolt in your hood or under your vehicle and stays in place when not in use.
I have added links to a review of the Hood Loops # MPG308 and the # TH529 for you to check out.
