I took a look at the owner's manual for a 2012 GMC Terrain and it stated that "Front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive vehicles may be dinghy towed from the front" so you can go with either option, though I do recommend verifying this with the dealership.

Base plates are vehicle-specific and the Demco Classic are a fit for your '12 Terrain and give your car a clean look.
