Tongue Weight Capacity of 2016 Subaru Outback 3.6R with etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver

Question:
Tongue Weight 2016 Subaru Outback 3.6R I realize that the tow weight for the vehicle superceeds what is listed for the hitch. Does the same thing apply for the tongue weight? The Outback only has a tongue weight of 200lbs. Would this hitch increase the tongue weight allowed?

The etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # E98847 will not increase the towing or tongue weight capacities of your vehicle but it can limit it. Trailer hitches are not rated for weight capacities on each vehicle but rather on the hitch itself as many hitches will fit different models and different years.
For your 2016 Subaru Outback 3.6R the manufacturer lists your towing capacity at 3,000 lbs with a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs. So in this case the etrailer.com hitch is stronger than the vehicle in both towing capacity and tongue weight, so you will be restricted to your vehicle specs with a max towing of 3,000 lbs and 200 lbs tongue weight.
This hitch is great for bike racks and accessories and if you will be towing, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118467 which is an easy connection to the factory harness located in your cargo area. I've attached a video to assist.
For a ball mount I recommend the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit - 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop # 989899 to give you options for towing different trailers level and a storage case. I've linked a video to help.
