I see how to install the crossbars of the thule tracrac sr ladder rack on my 2018 chevy silverado 1500 but will you be able to tell me what is needed to install the base rails? they just go through the stake pockets right?

The Thule TracRac SR Sliding Ladder Racks that fit your 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 will install directly in the stake pockets of your truck. All you need to do is appropriately line up the base rails with the stake pockets.
Your 2018 Silverado does have to use the included adapter for the rear stake pocket, as you can see by the accompanying cut out of the instructions. You will need to use that adapter and the existing hole at the rear of your truck bed to tighten the bolt. The front stake pocket will only require you put a pocket nut and rubber expansion block through the stake pocket and bolting the base rail to that.
The correct Thule TracRac SR Sliding Ladder Rack will depend on the size of the bed of your 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500:
- 5-1/2 Foot Bed: # TH43002XT-782
- 6-1/2 Foot Bed: # TH43002XT-781
- 8 Foot Bed: # TH43002XT-780
