There are a number of different trailer vent styles that come down to hinge fit. I tried to look up your order history to see what cover you purchased, but there wasn't a cover connected to an order from the email address you asked the question from. It is definitely not normal for a lid to only last 3 years without other factors outside of UV rays and all the covers we carry have UV protection so I'm sure we can find something that will work better for you.
I believe the Replacement Dome for Fan-Tastic Vent RV Roof Vents - Tinted # FVK1020-19 has better protection than others and the MaxxAir UniMaxx Universal Replacement Lid for RV and Trailer Roof Vent - Translucent Smoke # MA00-335002 even comes with a 6 year warranty.
