Question:

I need a trailer hitch for my 2018 Jeep Compass so that I can tow a small trailer. I'd prefer a 2 inch hitch.

For a 2 inch hitch that would work great for towing with your 2018 Jeep Compass the hitch I recommend is the Curt trailer hitch part # C13363. What's great about this hitch is that it's made here in the USA, has a 2 inch opening like you wanted with plenty of capacity at 6,000 lb trailer weight and it has a concealed crosstube which makes it less visible than other hitches where you can basically see the whole thing from the rear of the vehicle. See attached picture.

For trailer wiring the best option is the Curt T-Connector wiring harness part # C56369 which is also a custom fit for your vehicle. It uses connectors that plug inline with the taillight connectors of your vehicle which makes for an easier install without splicing and it has the most reliable converter box of the kits we carry for your vehicle.

Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
