Is a Locking Plate Needed with Demco Hijacker Autoslide Fifth Wheel Hitch
Published 11/06/2018 >
Question:
It has the jaws on top of the hitch. Do i need the locking plate in addition to them? Are the jaws supposed to be touching the pin box and tightened down? The manual ssys to preset them and leave 1/8 in on either side. Then forget about them.

For standard pin boxes you do not need to use a locking plate with the Demco Hijacker hitch # DM8550034 but if you use the following cushioned pin boxes: Glide Ride, Mor Ryde, Trailair Tri Glide, Trailair Flexair, Rota Flex, and 5th Airborne you would need to use a locking plate. I attached the portion of the instructions that covers how tight the capture plates should be and you are correct you need it to be 1/8 inch wider than the pin box width. This is tight enough to allow the head to still turn like it should but loose enough that the hitch can easily fit to the pin box.
