Expert Reply:
You'll most likely damage the vehicle frame before you do the hitch when you exceed the tongue weight capacity of a vehicle. The trailer hitch from Curt part # C11391 that fits your 2012 Honda Civic has a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs which you'd need to stay under that figure as well as the figure listed in your owner's manual since you are only as strong as the weakest component in your towing setup.
