Question:

hi what is the space between the centre of the car and the rack when swung out? In other words is it usable on for example a Ford Explorer? Can I open the doors open completely till the safety click?

I confirmed with my contact at Yakima that when their FullSwing # Y02465 rack is fully extended the spacing from the center of the rack's shank to the center of the upright tube will be approximately 36-inches. You can refer to the photo I prepared for you to see this dimension illustrated. You can then compare it to your Ford Explorer or any other vehicle on which you'd like to use either of these racks.

This rack extension provides more than enough clearance for the vast majority of vehicles including a Ford Explorer.
