What is the Correct Replacement Mounting Hardware for a Thule Mountaineer Cargo Box
Updated 10/24/2011 | Published 10/23/2011 >
Question:
I have an older Mountaineer box that uses hardware similar to style shown in picture of TH05075. Would like to update my hardware. Can I use kit 5820, even if I need to drill new holes in the plastic box? My existing hardware bolts are 4inch on-center. What options do I have? Thanks.

Expert Reply:
For older Mountaineer boxes, the correct replacement hardware is # TH04997. I recommend sticking with the correct replacement hardware because to use a different style, you would have to make modifications to the box and that can compromise the structural integrity of the box.
The TH05075 hardware that you mentioned has been discontinued but you can always use longer bolts with the # TH04997 kit because the rest of the kit is the same.
The EasySnap 5820 you mentioned has also been discontinued by the manufacturer.
