Picking Out Replacement Axle for 2005 Coachman Clipper

Question:

Hello, My 2005/2006 Coachman clipper pop up has drums and what appears to be electric brakes that are not used. I think I wrecked a bearing as when travelling down the road my wheel almost came off, Was missing a lug nut and all 4 holes and middle were burned out, ruining the bolts on the hub. Pic is attached. I never knew it had brakes until i removed the wheel and hub. I bought it with a 4 prong electric connector to my car, so clearly the electric brakes were not in use, and drum inside is all rusty. I am not that concerned with braking as the camper is small and about 1500 lbs only, but i need to replace the bolts for sure and probably the drums. If buy the drum assembly, I am assuming I have to pack or grease the bearings? Can you provide advice on how to do that? Should I also replace the opposite side? Thanks,

That picture of your wheel is pretty crazy! I hope the damage was minimal and no one got hurt!

If you damaged a bearing there's a pretty good chance you also damaged the spindle it rides on. You'd need to inspect the spindle to make sure it's free of damage. If it's damaged it's probably a good idea to just replace the axle since you are already at the point of replacing most of the axle. Especially if the hubs are currently pretty rusty on both sides most likely.

You are going to need to measure your current axles in a few places to get the correct one as we don't have access to what your numbers reference.

You will need to measure from hub face to hub face and then from the spring seat centers. You will also need to know what bolt pattern you have on your current hubs. I attached a help article on how to determine this as well.

I also attached a link to a page with all of the axles we carry. You'll also need to know the capacity your trailer needs. With that info we can see what axle would work best. Since we don't carry every possible size you may have to find a local custom shop who can order you in the axles you need based on dimension and capacity.
