Should one grease the bars on the hitch to reduce wear or does that reduce the anti sway properties by reducing friction too much?

No you are not going to want to put grease directly on the spring bars (or the brackets) of the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET.
That said, you can use the Equal-i-zer High-Performance Lubricant # EQ91-00-4250 in other areas of your system in order to help reduce wear and lessen the noise that may occur from the steel-on-steel friction; this lubricant can be put on the system's hitch ball as well as its spring-bar sockets and hitch head.
