Question:

I tow a trailer with a 5,000 lb axle. The current tires are 205/75R15 with a load range of C. Can I increase the load range to D or even E on the same wheels 6 lug on a 5 1/2inch circle? What are the load ranges for D and E tires?

The bolt pattern of your wheel is irrelevant to the fit of a ST205/75R15 tire, what matters is that your wheel is 15" in diameter. Additionally, the largest load range we carry in that size is D, which you can move up to though that will not equal the 5,000 lb capacity of your axle.

What will give you more than that capacity is a ST225/75R15 tire like the Karrier # AM10256. This tire has a load range of D and has a maximum capacity of 2,540 lbs at 65 psi; for a load range E ST225/75R15 tire like the Provider # TR225LRE you will have a 2,830 lb maximun load at 80 psi.

The only thing to note is that these ST225/75R15 tires are 1.18" larger in diameter and 0.79" wider than ST205/75R15 tires so you need to ensure you have enough room for them to fit. They will also need to be on 15" diameter wheels, though ST225/75T15 tires only fit 15 inch wheels that have a 6", 6-1/2" or 7" width.
