Trailer Wheel Recommendation for Boat Trailer 175/80R13

Published 05/11/2026

Question:

I have a Shorelander trailer/boat totaling 2,000 lbs loaded. Requesting an ST175/80R/13 tire recommendation that prioritizes safe handling at highway speeds. Something that can easily handle 60-90 mile trips to MN freshwater lakes. Equally important is a tire wh siidewalls that can withstand the abuse of boat ramps in poor condition. Also requesting a wheel recommendation - galvanized vs. powder coat. Galvanized wheels might hold up better, but steel wheels might provide smoother and more balanced handling at highway speeds. I love the look of your aluminum wheels but understand they arent as strong as the steel wheels Ill take strength over appearance. Preference is a load rating of D but C is fine and a speed rating of M or N. Thanks, Keith

Hey Keith, I would recommend the Kenda Karrier KR35 part # KE34TJ as it will cover everything you are looking for including having a nicer looking aluminum wheel. This is a high quality tire with a Load Range of D and a higher speed rating of N that will do a great job with your boat ramps. Aluminum is a softer metal than steel but the wheel is designed to be just as strong as a steel wheel and won't corrode at all. Also it looks nicer as like I mentioned as well.
