Could Curt Triflex Brake Controller Drain Truck Battery

I had one installed on my 2010 Ford F-150. It worked fine and smoothly bringing my new camper home. However, after a few days of sitting my truck battery died. I had the battery tested and recharged and it was fine no problem with the battery itself. I noticed sometimes the red light stays on the brake controller after I’ve removed the key from the ignition. Also, sometimes it does not stay on. Is this normal? Would the brake controller cause my battery to die if the red light stays on after removing the key? Do I need to take it back to the RV install place to have it checked?

Brake controllers like the Triflex part # C51140 will have an indicator light that will stay on for several minutes after the vehicle has stopped running. It eventually will go into sleep mode after a period of time. That indicator draws such a low amount that your battery would die from inactivity before it would drain it. It is most likely coincidence that you installed the controller recently.

I'd take the truck to a local auto parts store to have the battery and charging system tested. If it's the original battery in your 2010 F-150 it's most likely time for a new one.
