Replacing a Broken Leaf Spring on a 2007 Starcraft 2406 Pop Up Trailer
Question:
I have a 2007 Starcraft 2406GVWR 2820, GVW 2009, Dry axle 1792 which has 24 double eyelet leaf springs on a Super Lube leaf spring axle. I had a leaf spring break a year ago, replaced both springs, and now a year later, another leaf spring broke even though it was replaced a year ago. At the time this one broke, we were running pretty light since it was on the way home. I want to know if there is way to add a spring that is stronger than what was originally installed. Current spring is 3 leafs

When replacing a broken leaf spring on your trailer there are a few things to note. The most important part about a leaf spring being compatible with your trailer is that it is rated for at least the same weight capacity as your trailer axle. If it is rated lower you could overload it. A higher rated leaf spring would work but it would also make your trailer suspension stiff.
Other than weight capacity you simply need to make sure that it has the correct width, is the same style, and has an appropriate length (measured from center eye to center eye). The amount of leafs that it has actually isn't crucial as long as it is rated for the correct weight capacity. Over time leaf springs can stretch but I am not sure if we have an exact match for your leaf spring unless you didn't measure from the eye centers.
The closest we have is part # e59SR which is a 3-Leaf spring rated for a 3,500 lb trailer axle. This spring has a width of 1-3/4" and has a length of 23-1/8" from center eye to center eye. If this is a match for your trailer then you will need to have both leaf springs placed on your axle and you can keep the one that is currently intact as a spare in case of an emergency.
It would also be a good idea to take your trailer to a shop and have them check your suspension. Unless you overloaded that one side of your trailer your leaf spring should have lasted longer than a year. The premature wear could have to do with something being off with your suspension and the breaking of your leaf spring could have caused something else in your suspension to get damaged.
