Why Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack Is Not Rated For RVs

Question:

Why is the Yakima Hold up bike rack not for an RV? I just saw one on the back of an RV.

Bike carriers that are designed to work on the rear of an RV are made so that they can take the additional stress at the back of the RV. Yakima does not recommend using the HoldUp Rack on RVs because a bike rack mounted on the rear of a motor home will be subject to more shaking and jarring than would be experienced when mounted in the receiver on a passenger vehicle. This is primarily caused by two factors, the distance between the rear axle of the RV and the receiver, and the stiffer ride typically experienced in RVs. The Yakima HoldUp, part # Y02443 has not been tested and approved for use at the rear of an RV.

One bike rack we offer that is designed to work with a rear-mounted hitch on an RV is the Thule Doubletrack Pro XT Bike Rack # TH92BJ, which has a similar style as the Yakima HoldUp. The carrying capacity is 2 bikes and the weight capacity is 70 lbs total and 35 lbs per bike.

We actually have quite a few RV-approved bike racks available, and I've linked our full selection below. I particularly like the Hollywood Racks # HR1450Z-E because of its durability, ease of use, and ability to handle heavier bikes (up to 80 pound bikes!).
