Question:
Ok - so if I order a new 2” tongue to replace the 1 1/4” tongue on my Yakima Holdup rack - how do I get the plastic sleeve in the attachment hardware ot of the receiver when I want to switch back to my regular 2” receiver without adaptor. The problem is that I have 2 vehicles- one with a 2” receiver and one with an 1 1/4 “ receiver. I want to be able to move my rack to the vehicle I want to use at the time, but I cannot make permanent changes to the 2” receiver because I also use that hitch to tow my boat.

The Replacement Tongue for Yakima HoldUp Bike Racks # 8880580 will keep the Replacement Hitch Hardware for Yakima HoldUp Bike Racks # 8890260 in place still inside the tongue when you remove the tongue from your receiver.
The Yakima hold up requires either the 2 inch shank or the 1-1/4 inch shank. You will not be able to use the 1-1/4 inch tongue # 8880581 with an adapter for compatibility with the 2 inch receiver. You will need both tongues and will need to physically bolt the rack to the correct tongue each time you switch vehicles. They have purposefully designed it this way so you cannot overload the 1-1/4 inch shank with the additional parts that fit the 2 inch tongue.
If you just want to use a single tongue, then I recommend getting the 1-1/4 inch tongue # 8880581 and then using the Hitch Adapter 2" to 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver - 7" Long # 80300 in your 2 inch receiver. This will reduce the tongue weight of your 2 inch hitch receiver by 50% which will still be more than enough for your bike rack.
If you don't want to reduce the tongue weight of your hitch, you can instead use # HT02. This is a sleeve adapter a few inches shorter.
