For installation of front hitch # 65025 for your 2001 Ford F-150 there are certain holes you will need to use depending on the vehicle. For 1999 and newer F-150 4x4s, Light Duty F-250 models, and Expedition models you would use the lower holes in the hitch. All other applications use the upper set of holes for the driver side.
For the passenger's side the 1997-1998 F-150 4x4, Light Duty F-250, and Expedition, as well as 1999 F-150 and F-250 Light Duty 2-wheel drive and Lincoln Navigator will use the upper holes. All other applications would use the lower holes.
I don't have an exact measurement from the ground to the hitch but I can tell you that the receiver will be directly under the bottom-most part of the front bumper fascia as shown in the diagram I have included. One customer measured to the bottom of the hitch and it was at about 14 inches but I can't verify which vehicle he had.
