All 5th Wheel Hitch Options for Factory RAM Towing Prep Package

Question:

I read an article that the factory RAM towing prep group does not have a commercially available hitch plate that will fit the hole pattern. Is that true

There are several 5th wheel hitches that will fit the factory RAM towing prep package hole pattern. I'll list out the options we offer below along with a few recommendations. The article you found was likely an old article. RAM sort of botched the release of their OEM 5th wheel package back in 2012/2013 and they started selling trucks with the factory mounting kit before a hitch was actually designed and released. The trucks were sold for about 6 months before a hitch was actually released. The following hitches will fit all models (2500, 3500) and years (2013-Present) of the RAM trucks with the factory 5th wheel prep package.

Short-bed Models (Sliding hitches)
B&W Companion 20K # BWRVK3670 (Recommended)

The B&W Companion, Reese OEM Series, and the Curt A Series hitches are considered to be the premium options. The Q series hitches from Curt are basically just the previous generation of their A series hitches and the Curt E-16 hitch is an entry-level hitch that will get the job done, but you won't be very impressed with the ride quality.

My recommendation is the B&W Companion. B&W makes excellent hitches right here in the USA and a huge advantage they have is that the head unit can be easily removed from the base by pulling the two levers on either side of the head making it easier for one person to remove and install the hitch. For each of the hitches listed you are looking at over 150 lbs each. The Companion is one of the few hitches on the market that breaks down easily saving you time and effort. It is also the only sliding hitch option for short bed trucks.

There is also an OEM rail adapter, # RP30154, which allows any traditional 5th wheel hitch that uses the standard in-bed 5th wheel base rails to mount to RAM trucks with the OEM 5th wheel prep package.
