5th Wheel Base Rail Installation Kit for a 2005 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 Bed

Published 06/06/2018

Question:

Recently bought a hijacker sliding hitch with rails used and need a kit to mount it on my truck I have a 2005 ford supercrew 5 1/2 ft box will the universal kit work or do I need a custom kit. Can I use the rails I got. Or do I need all new. Not going to use it much. Just a few times to get trailer home to work on it then to its permanent home? Mabey might have to move it around occasionally

Out of the base rail kits that we have for your 2005 Ford F-150 I recommend going with the semi-custom install kit # RP30035-426 or the custom install kit # RP50081-58. Since they are fairly similar in price the custom option is the better way to go since it is easier to install but it will not fit with a Flareside or Stepside bed. As long as your Hijacker uses the industry standard mounting points it will fit your pickup. We recommend using base rails that match the manufacturer of the brackets.

Since you have a 5-1/2' box we highly recommend installing a Sidewinder pin box on your trailer so that you don't hit the cab of your truck when you are turning. If your short trip doesn't involve any turns then you may be okay, otherwise it is best to install a Sidewinder. If you let me know what the pin box number is on your current pin box I can recommend a replacement Sidewinder. For example, the Sidewinder # RP34FR replaces the popular 0719, 1621, and 1621HD pin boxes.
