Class I Trailer Hitch Compatibility with 3 Bike Carrier

Published 06/04/2018

Question:

I ordered the Curt hitch. It has been delivered and is in the unopened box. Now I am concerned that this is the wrong hitch. Is the Draw Tight better than the Curt? I see that it doesnt need a stabilizer strap. I bought a Yakima Light weight 31 lbs 3 bike carrier. But the Curt instructions say that the hitch can only support a 2 bike carrier. It also says that it can support 200 lbs. Three bikes and my carrier will be under 200 lbs. Can the hitch support this load? If I need to exchange the Curt for the Draw Tight, how do I go about this? Will I have similar issues with the Draw tight and my bike rack?

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11465 is a fit for 2017-2018 Subaru Impreza models. The Draw-Tite option # DT24959 is also a Class I trailer hitch and due to that will also be limited to 2 bikes. The tongue weight capacity will be the same as most Class II hitches, but the restriction remains. To use a bike carrier with the Curt hitch, you will also need to use the stability strap # 18050 to keep Curt's warranty.

There is only one trailer hitch option for your Impreza that will allow for the 3 bikes and it is the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III - 2" # 306-X7350.

If you choose to return your Curt hitch, I've attached the return policy for you.
