2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL - Limited - Trailer Brake Controller Hello, as per the subject line I would like to have a complete Trailer package installed for our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL Limited. We require a hitch, wiring and an electric brake controller. The standard Hyndai accessories does not include the brake controller. Why is a brkae controller required and where can I get one?

For your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe XL Limited I recommend starting with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver 2" # C13153. This will give you a strong hitch and will allow your spare tire to be reinstalled without any issues.
For your wiring, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56184 to get your 4-way and then add the Universal Brake Controller Wiring Kit # ETBC7 Kit to get your 7-way. This kit comes with the wiring, the connectors, the circuit breakers and everything needed to add the 7-way and brake controller to your 4-way wiring harness.
Then I recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is a very nice brake controller that is proportional so it will apply the brakes on your trailer with the same intensity and at the same time as you hit the brake pedal in your Santa Fe. I've attached a video of this installation for you. Note--You only need a brake controller if your trailer utilizes electric drum brakes or has an electric over hydraulic brake actuator. May small trailers don't require brakes but most over 3,500 lbs do utilize them. You can check the hubs to know for sure at a quick glance.
Finally, you will want a ball mount. The height required can change from trailer to trailer because you want it to be level. I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount # BWTS10048B which will give you the adjustment options as well as the ability to stow the hitch balls out of the way for a clean look that also protects your shins when loading cargo. I recommend using a hitch lock like # C23025 to protect your investment.
