How Far to Jack Up Truck Trailer When Install Weight Distribution System with Bolt-On Chain Hangers
Published 08/26/2011 >
Question:
When connecting a weight distributing hitch to a trailer with bolt-on chain hangers I understand that you first connect the trailer to the ball mount and then jack up both the car and trailer using the trailers tongue jack. My question is, should I be raising them up to the approximate unladen ride height of the tow vehicle or to a height slightly above or below?

I spoke with my contact at Reese and informed me that you will want to jack your tow vehicle and trailer up to the unloaded height of your tow vehicle. The unloaded height of your trailer is the height your tow vehicle is at when there is not a load on your tow vehicle.
I attached an FAQ page on weight distribution for you to check out also.
