Question:

I have a steel 2 horse BP trailer..abt 2,200 empty, 4,300 max loaded. Will this hitch be safe enough or should I just go with a Class IV?

With the trailer load you will be carrying, using the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 13333, would put you near or slightly over the tongue weight capacity of the hitch, which is 600 lbs. If you were to use a weight distribution system when carrying your horse trailer you would be ok to use the Curt # 13333 Hitch. Tongue weight is calculated to be about 10 to 15 percent of the Gross Trailer Weight.

I would recommend using the Curt Class V Trailer Hitch, part # C15409. This hitch will have the capacity to handle the tongue weight of your 2 horse BP trailer. Also, if you ever have to tow a heavier trailer or decide to upgrade to a larger trailer, you have the capacity to do so.
