Question:

I understand the clamps move forward and backwards to accommodate the various lengths between front and rear crossbars. However, I would like to know the width of the clamps themselves. I ask because the usable crossbar width on my RAV4 seems narrow. This will help in me determining if a Yakima Skybox 18 and 16 would work. Thanks!

If I understand correctly you want to know the distance side to side from one set of clamps to the other on the Yakima SkyBox 18 # Y07336 as well as the 16, # Y95AV. On both of these boxes that distance is 21 inches. This is from the outside of one clamp to the outside of the other.

If you tell me the year of your RAV4 I could tell you whether or not these boxes are a fit for your vehicle's factory roof rack. We do have that information without the need for measurements since Yakima has already done the leg-work for us.
