How to Choose Right Ball Mount for 2010 Honda Odyssey Pulling 2008 Jayco Pop-Up Camper

Question:

I am wondering which ball mount I would need for a 2010 Honda Odyssey pulling a 2008 Jayco 1207 pop-up camper. I borrowed a friends ball mount which is 10.25 in. long and has a 7.5 in. rise. However, it looks like I could probably go with a 7 in. rise to may it perfectly level. I also wonder how are you suppose to determine the length and whether 10.25 in. is the right length. If so, do they even make a ball mount with this length and rise?? Thanks,

Rise and drop is going to be the most important measurement when it comes to a ball mount; getting a ball mount with an extended length will only be necessary if, for example, your hitch is underneath your vehicle quite a bit and you need the added length to clear that amount of space.

In order to choose the ball mount with the correct rise and drop, there are a couple measurements you'll need to take. First, make sure both your 2010 Odyssey and 2008 Jayco are parked on level ground; you'll then want to measure from the ground to the top of the inside of your hitch receiver. Next, measure from the ground to the bottom of your trailer's coupler and find the difference between the two measurements.

If the height of your hitch is greater, you will need a ball mount with that amount of drop. If the height of the coupler is greater, you'll need a ball mount with that amount of rise. For example, if the top of the hitch on your truck measured 12 inches and the bottom of your coupler measured 10 inches, you would need a ball mount with 2 inches of drop such as the Curt # C45030.
