Hi – we are looking to have a hitch installed on our 2010 Honda fit. We’d like to be able to have the ability To easily transport 4 bikes or some kind of a cargo trailer not the same time. What would you recommend? Thank you

We have everything you need to be able to transport 4 bikes (or cargo trailer) with your 2010 Honda Fit.

Starting with the trailer hitch for your 2010 Honda Fit, I recommend the EcoHitch Trailer Hitch # 306-X7286. This Class I hitch will use existing holes in your vehicle's frame for a no-drill installation. It features a 300 pound tongue weight capacity and will provide you with a 2 inch receiver. I recommend this hitch over the Curt model that is also designed for your vehicle because unlike Curt, EcoHitch does not require the use of an additional stabilizing strap when using the hitch for non-trailer loads like a bike rack or cargo carrier. It also has the more popular 2" receiver opening and 100 pounds more of tongue weight.

I have attached an installation video on your vehicle that you can use for reference.

Next, you will need to make sure that the total weight of the bike rack, and all of the bikes, stays under the vehicle's and hitch's weight capacities. Go buy whichever is lower between the hitch and your Honda FIT. You should also place the heaviest bikes closest to the vehical.

I really like the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Platform Rack # KU74FR. This Class I compatible, platform-style carrier can support 2 bikes of up to 40 pounds each and it features ratcheting hooks that will hold the bikes by their wheels with no frame contact. A spring-loaded foot pedal on the carrier will allow you to tilt the rack back for easy rear cargo access.

Since you also mentioned possibly towing a small trailer, I recommend using the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118420. This custom harness will install by connecting directly to built-in ports behind the driver and passenger side tail lights (inside the trunk). This will give you a 4-Way connector to connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights.

To tow a trailer, you will also need a ball mount and hitch ball. I recommend the Draw-Tite Drawbar # 3593, which features a rise of 2-1/8 inches or a drop of 2-3/4 inches. You can then use a 2 inch hitch ball like # 19258 or a 1-7/8 inch ball like # 19256. Before towing a trailer, I do strongly recommend checking the vehicle's owner's manual for its specific guidelines or restrictions when it comes to towing.
