Recommended Sidewinder Pin Box With RamBox Applications

Question:

Hello. I have a 2016 RAM 2500 short bed with Ram boxs. I am on my second Rese sidewinder air bag type hitch which I purchased from you. First one installed by camping dealer who I will no longer do business with. This is the hitch that moves the pivot point back 24 inches. The hitch is working as designed I believe ... but I have had hook up and unhook issues with this hitch and the prior one installed on my fifth wheel since day one! My fifth wheel camper has a rounded front end to allow cab clearance. My question is .... do I HAVE to use this type of hitch due to the RAM Boxes as the camping dealer told me? I see many short beds pulling these units. I am willing to give up the full 90 degree angle. It seems to me that as long as the pivot of a standard hitch will rotate inside the RAM boxes, it should not matter. Can you advise?

For your 2016 Ram 2500 Short Bed with RamBox, you do need to use a Sidewinder Pin box like # RP61422. This will move the pivot point of your trailer back 22 inches which is needed for turning clearance with your reduced space due not only to the short bed, but even more so by the RamBox. If you would properly pivot inside the RamBox without contact it wouldn't be required, but I don't believe that is a possibility.

The hitching and disconnection issue is possibly due to your hitch and wedge combination. Many times there is a custom wedge available to help with this issue. The universal wedge does work, but not as well as a specific customized option, so that make help solve your problem. If you let me know what hitch you are using, I'd be happy to assist further.
