How Bad Is It to Have The Rear Sag/Squat On Tow Vehicle When Towing And Can It Be Fixed

Hello. This is a technical question. I have a 2017 Nissan Titan XD diesel, crew cab, 4x4, 6.4ft bed SV model with tow ready, hitch is Curt A16 with Nissan puck system and pinbox is Airborne Sidewinder already set to max height with hitch adjustments. I will be pulling a 5th wheel trailer well within specs for towing. My question is about the trucks rear end sag/squat that occurs when hitched. The sag is ~2.5 inches at dry weight of trailer, having another 1500lbs for cargo add to trailer that may increase it. I was considering doing an Air Lift suspension air bags to help leveling, but not sure if I have or need to related to truck. How much sag is bad for the truck, either in terms of headlight misalignment or structurally impacting the rear suspension? I'm wanting to avoid on-coming cars flashing me at night because they think I have brights on, and of course avoid damaging suspension. My hesitation for adding the Air Lift bag suspension capability is that it will raise the trailer higher in the front which will misalign the towed vehicle height already maxed the trailer height adjustments with a Correct Track install that raised the trailer suspension 2, and manufacturer does not recommend anything else for raising height of trailer, I have the 295BHS model. If I can, I'd like to not add the Air Lift, but wanting to ensure I'm safe with the truck. Thank you!!!

With your sag/squat situation, we normally recommend an Air Lift bag suspension enhancement like the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper, Item # AL88229, that is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Nissan Titan XD. Since you have already adjusted your trailer and it is at it maxed out level, this option may not be the best for you.

The Air Lift option would eliminate your sag/squat but will also raise your trailer height as part of the leveling. This leaves you the only option of having sag/squat when towing. Any sag/squat is not good and should be avoided when possible. Relatively speaking you will be safe with your Nissan but will have some additional maintenance along the way because of your unique situation.

Basically, you will have to choose between being okay with sag or unlevel towing.
