Can Reducer Sleeve be Used with a Weight Distribution System
Updated 09/07/2017 | Published 09/05/2017 >
Question:
I use a Curt weight distribution hitch on my travel trailer and it has a 2 inch shank on it. Previously I towed the trailer with a Ram 1500 with a class IV hitch but now I just purchased a Ram 2500 that has a class V 2-1/2. The new truck came with a 2-1/2 inch to 2inch , can I just use that without buying any new parts? The hitch weight on the trailer is only 550 lbs and the trailer only weighs 5300 lbs.

Helpful Expert Reply:
Yes, you most certainly can simply use a reducer sleeve as opposed to a new shank for your Weight Distribution (WD) setup. I recommend the Curt Reducer Sleeve # C45405 which will reduce your 2-1/2" hitch receiver opening to a 2" opening so that your current WD Curt WD system is compatible with your Ram 2500.
