Recommended Trailer LED Tail Lights for Trailer Ramp
Updated 04/16/2018 | Published 04/14/2018 >
Question:
I wanted a bit more brake light on my trailers ramp. So I have two small LED side marker lights 2 wire. I wired them into the existing LandR trailer tail lights also 2 wire on each side. Once wired the LED markers work for tail light and turn signals. However, when I depress the brake pedal they go out. Can I wire these 2 wire LEDs to be: * Brake and Tail Light? Or * Brake light only? Many thanks.

Helpful Expert Reply:
Because they are side marker lights, they are not designed for the dual brightness function of tail an brake lights. You can wire them to be tail lights or brake lights only, but you may be overloading their circuit with the brake light signal strength. I recommend you use the Sealed, 6-1/2" Oval LED Trailer Stop, Turn and Tail Light # STL78RB to give you the features you are seeking. The Red wire will be your stop light, the black wire will be your running light and the white wire will connect to the trailer to be a ground wire. Based on the tail lights you have with the current wiring, they are probably grounded through the mounting hardware and that is why you don't have the 3rd wire.
