Review of the Optronics Oval LED Trailer Light

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Optronics Sealed LED Trailer Light, part number STL78RB. This light features 10 DOT approved super LEDs, and because it's an LED, it's more efficient and there's no bulbs to change. It's a 6-1/2" oval light that serves 3 functions, brake, turn signal, and a taillight. It's a sealed waterproof lens, that's going to help with preventing corrosion. It is designed to be used on a flat surface, this is a flange mount that's just going to screw on. Now that we've looked at the features of this light, we're going to go ahead and show you how to install it. This comes as a quantity of 1, so if you want to do a second, you're going to need to go ahead and pick up a second one, which is what we recommend.

Take our stripper and strip back about 1/4" of the wire, go ahead and do all 3 at the same time, and we're going to take some butt connectors, they do not come with it, but they are available on our website, part number DW05714. Simply place your butt connector in your tool, slide it in, crimp it, I'm going to repeat that on the other 2 wires. These do come pre-stripped, but they're not stripped back very far, so I like to take a little extra back, til you get about 1/4". On our trailer, the white wire is the ground, which is what it is on here, so you would just match the 2 wires together, crimp it. The red is your brake and turn signal. You want to check on your trailer with a test light to be sure that that's not ...

You want to make sure that you have them wired correctly, and this one's going to be your running light. Before you attach it, you want to go ahead and test it and make sure all your functions are working properly. We'll try the brake light, turn signal, and the running light. Perfect. Now you simply push your wires back in and you would attach with 2 screws. You may want to take some silicone and just put a little bead around the hole here, just to help seal out some of the moisture out of the inside of your trailer.

We're not going to do it for demonstration purposes, but it's not a bad idea to just put a little bit around there to seal it up. That's how you install the lights. That's going to complete our look and install of the Optronics Sealed 6-1/2" Oval LED Trailer Light, part number STL78RB.
