Is Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank Compatible With Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System?

Question:

I have a 2018 Ram 2500. Looking at the 2-1/2 inch Gen-y Torsion hitch with a Equalizer sway control attached. Not sure how much rise/ I need with the Gen-y hitch for a Rockwood 2507S. Will these two systems work with each other? Can you help with this? Thanks

I believe you were asking about the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank # 325-GH-1302 because there is not a Gen-Y hitch that fits your 2018 Ram 2500. If so, the answer is yes, you can absolutely use that shank with an Equal-i-zer weight distribution system such as the Equal-i-zer # EQ37101ET.

You will need to find the best weight distribution system for your Rockwood 2507S. In order to choose the best system you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your Ram.

The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify it by using a scale such as the Sherline # 5780 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you. From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.

From my research your Rockwood 2507S has a GVWR of just over 6,700 lbs and depending on the cargo you have behind your rear axle, the Equal-i-zer # EQ37101ET I referenced earlier could be a great choice as it is designed for total tongue weights between 600 lbs and 1,000 lbs. It comes with everything you need for installation though it is recommended you use thin-walled socket # EQ70-00-4800 for installation of the hitch ball.

I've added links to video reviews of these parts for you to take a look at, as well as a link to our selection of Equal-i-zer systems without shanks for you to check out should you need something with a different tongue weight capacity.

Like I mentioned earlier, I recommend the Equal-i-zer weight distribution systems which use clamp-on brackets so you won't have to drill along your trailer frame. The Equal-i-zer allows you to back up with the system on, is compatible with both electric and surge brakes, and prevents sway instead of just manages it with 4 points of sway control via friction in the spring bars. Our customers who have used this system regard it very highly, with well over 200 reviews it has averaged nearly 5 out of 5 stars.

Keep in mind that you will need to know your total tongue weight before choosing the right system, such as the # EQ37100ET (which is a system that includes the shank) if your total tongue weight was in the 800 lb range. I've added a link to a video review of this system for you to check out as well as a link to our page with each of our Equal-i-zer systems.
