The description is a 3 inch spindle length. Where is that measured from? Is it 3 inch from the end to the mounting bracket? I would like that dimension please.

Yes, the 3" length of the shank is measured from the end of the spine to the mounting flange of the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 52655IEU. I have noted that and the 2-1/4" diameter in the attached photo for you to reference as well.
This spindle and hub combination is rated for 5,200 lb axles and the hub has a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern.
