I have a 2018 dodge ram with a cummins diesel and a short bet. what 5th wheel hitch do I need.

For your 2018 Ram with short bed and Cummins Diesel, if you have the factory puck system, I recommend the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider for Ram Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3670. This is a really nice and well built slider compatible with your factory pucks without any adapter needed.
If you don't have the factory pucks, then I recommend the Reese Custom fit rail kit # RP56009-53 to get your above bed rails and then the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R20 Slider - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs # C16541. This sliding hitch has the interlocking dual jaws for solid king pin connection. It also has round tubes for non-binding movement between locking positions for towing and turning clearance.
I also recommend the Bargman # 50-97-410 wiring harness to add a second 7-way to your truck. This will allow you a connection in the bed of your truck for easy connection access while still allowing you the bumper 7-way connection when needed.
