I have an 02 Honda Civic Coupe LX with no existing rails or crossbars, and was wondering what would be the best roof rack to carry a bike/small kayak?

For your 2002 Honda Civic, I recommend using the Yakima CoreBar Crossbar System composed of part # Y00421, part # Y28TR, part # Y06162, and part # Y06159. The Yakima CoreBars offer a sleek and aerodynamic look which will reduce wind noise and prevent drag. The BaseLine towers are contoured to the roof of your vehicle and can be adjusted to provide a level crossbar surface.

For a bike rack that will work well with the above crossbars, I recommend the Yakima HighRoad Roof Bike Rack part # Y02114. The HighRoad is a wheel mount bike carrier with sliding wheel hoops that will accommodate various wheelbases. It has an integrated TorqueRight knob that prevents the wheel hoop from being over or under tighten. The rack can also be folded down while not in use.

To carry a kayak, I recommend using the Yakima JayLow Kayak Carrier part # Y04073. The JayLow carrier is very easy to install and use. It comes with tie-downs and can also be folded down while not in use. The best thing about using all Yakima products is that you can lock them using the same key with the Yakima Same Key System part # Y07208.
