The Proper Set Up of Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System on 2007 GMC Sierra 1500

Question:
I asked my previous question regarding this hitch incorrectly adjusting the amount of sway control. My loaded tongue weight will be 700#, right in the range of this hitch. However, I wont always be towing a loaded trailer. Empty, it has only a 330# tongue weight. Is this hitch still the best choice for me, or would a different style be better? Thanks.

The goal of a weight distribution system such as the Curt TruTrack # C17499 is to ensure a level setup with the tow vehicle and trailer; you do not need to get back to the unloaded factory stance of your 2007 GMC Sierra 1500. Before using any weight distribution system it is important that you get the correct one.
To determine the right system, you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2007 GMC Sierra 1500. To determine your trailer's loaded tongue weight you can use a scale such as the etrailer # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you.
From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity. I've added a link to our page with each of our weight distribution systems for you to come back to once you determine your TTW.
