Although I don't have a wiring schematic for your 1986 Coachman Crusader travel trailer, I can help you determine the color coding based on function. Most of the time, the running light function is brown in color, but that isn't always the case. The best way to check is to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the function at your vehicle side connection first. I've attached an article to assist with the location.
If that isn't working, then there is often a parking light fuse that needs attention and you can find the fuse using your owners manual. If the fuse isn't the problem, you will need to use the tester to probe the wire every few feet to find the wire short and replace that length of wire.
If the trailer connection on your vehicle is good, then first check the main ground connection on your trailer to ensure you have a good ground that is bare metal on metal and free of corrosion. Then check your trailer tail lights to see if there is a separate ground connection there ensuring it also has the proper ground connection. If that checks out, then you will need to use the circuit tester to probe the wire insulation to check function every few feet to determine short and replace the wire with # 16-1-1.
