Question:
Was wondering if a blue ox wd hitch with sway control 6000 lbs gtw, 550 tw would work with my 2016 highlander which has a 500 lb tw and a 2018 Rockwood mini lite 1905 travel trailer. dry weight around 3300 lbs.

Expert Reply:
For your 2018 Rockwood Mini Lite 1905, the unloaded tongue weight is 418 lbs. When you fully load your trailer, this tongue weight will increase and will add to the total tongue weight which also includes any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2016 Toyota Highlander. As long as your total tongue weight is under 550 lbs, the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Clamp On - 6,000 lbs GTW, 550 lbs TW # BXW0556 will work well. It is rated for 350 to 550 lbs total tongue weight. Based on your vehicle tongue weight rating, you will need to be careful not to overload your total tongue weight, but this system will work very well for you.
You will also want to get a hitch ball like # A-90 for a 2 inch diameter ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch diameter hitch ball.
