Question:
I am trying to decide which of these hitches to mount on my wifes 2018 Chevrolet Equinox... it will be primarily used to carry a scooter/power-chair carrier, but we may tow a suitable trailer at some point also. I am looking to learn what additional components I will need, ie: wiring harness, stabilizing parts, and whatever else may be required. A few dollars difference isnt a concern, ease of installation appears to be similar in your videos so I guess Im asking if there are intangibles between the two hitches that may favor one over the other. Your insight will be very much appreciated... thanks in advance,

There are indeed two Class III trailer hitches available that are confirmed to fit your 2018 Chevy Equinox (as long as you don't have the Diesel model). Both the etrailer # e59ZR and the Draw-Tite # 76419 will provide you with a 2 inch receiver opening and have the same tongue capacity of 675 pounds and tow capacities of 4500 pounds. However, they will have very different installation processes. The # e59ZR has an install difficulty of , as you noted, and both will provide you with a 2 inch receiver opening.
The etrailer model # e59ZR does not require drilling, needs the exhaust temporarily lowered, and might need the access holes enlarged. It has a difficulty rating of 4 out of 10. The Draw-Tite # 76217 required temporary removal of the urea tank and some minor fascia trimming. This puts its installation at a difficulty rating of 10 out of 10.
I have attached an installation video on your 2018 Equinox that you can use for reference.
Then for wiring, if you do not have the factory tow package and your Equinox is not the Premier model, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118750. This custom-fit harness will install by connecting directly to the built-in ports located behind the driver and passenger side tail lights. This will give you a 4-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle to connect with and power a trailer's signal lights. If you do have the Premier model, you will want part # 118759 instead. And finally, if you do in fact have the factory tow package, you will need # C94FR.
I have attached the installation instructions for these harnesses that you can also check out.
To tow a trailer, you will also need a ball mount. I have included a great article that explains how to choose the correct one for your setup, along with a link that will take you to our available selection.
