Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Installation - 2019 Chevrolet Equinox

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-tite Class III custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number 76419. The nice thing about this one is that the cross tube is gonna be pretty well hidden behind the rear bumper here and all we're going to see is that receiver tube sticking out.The big benefit to the cross tube being behind the bumper is that we're gonna have a lot better ground clearance. So whether you're backing out of a driveway or going over a bump, we are gonna have a little bit more clearance than some of the other ones that have the cross tube below the bumper. Our hitch is gonna offer us a 2 inch by 2 inch receiver tube opening, so we're gonna have a lot of different varieties when it comes to any kind of accessory that we wanna mount. Now the way we're gonna mount all of our accessories is through the large pin hole here on the side. Our hitch is gonna accept a standard 5A spinning clip, and while these aren't included in the kit, you can pick 'em up here at eTrailer.com.The secondary hole towards the back of the receiver tube here is gonna be exclusively for the J-pin stabilization device. That's gonna be nice if any accessories don't have a built in anti-rattle, and the way it's gonna work basically it's gonna have this hook, we'll slide threading section into our pin hole, and then that hook is gonna go into the secondary hole and it's gonna apply pressure to our accessory inside the receiver tube.

It's gonna have a nut that we're gonna tighten up, and that's gonna drawn that in, and also it is a locking device, so it's gonna keep all of our accessories nice and safe. Again, this is sold separately and you can find it here at eTrailer.com.Our safety chain connection points are gonna be a loop style weld to the bottom of the receiver tube here, and as you can see, we're not gonna have too much trouble getting most size hooks on or off. There is a slight offset from the pin hole, so we're not gonna have to worry about any kind of interference. As far as weight capacity goes, our hitch is gonna have a 675 pound tongue weight, and that's gonna be the maximum downward force at the receiver tube. It's also gonna have a 4500 pound gross trailer weight rating, which is the amount it can pull including the trailer and everything we have loaded on it. It's also rated for use for weight distribution systems and that's gonna be a separate component that's gonna be mounted on your trailer, however, those weight ratings are gonna stay the same.

With all those numbers in mind, you should always double check your Equinox's owner's manual, and never exceed the manufacturer's recommended weight.Like to give you a few measurements and that's gonna help you whenever you're looking at accessories for your hitch such as a ball mount, a bike rack, or even a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper, you're right about 5-1/2 inches. That measurements gonna come in handy when you're looking at folding accessories to make sure you have enough clearance and that it's not gonna come in contact with the rear bumper. From the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening it's right about 10-1/2 inches. That measurements not only is gonna come in handy when you're looking at a ball mount, to find the appropriate riser drop to match up to your trailer, but at that height I would also recommend a bike rack or a cargo carrier with a raised shank, that way we get a little bit more ground clearance. Now that we've seen what our hitch looks like and going over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation, we're gonna come to the back of our Equinox, and at the very bottom of the bumper, we're gonna have these two bolts, one on each side that we're gonna have to removed.

I'm gonna use a T15 torque spit to pull those out. On each side of our muffler, we're gonna have these hangers that are attached to the bumper core here. There's gonna be two bolts going through, so we're gonna wanna grab a 15 millimeter socket, and take those bolts out. We're gonna have those two bolts on each side of our muffler. Before we fully lower it, you wanna make sure that you have a support strap so our exhaust doesn't come down too far. Let's find a sturdy spot that we can hook our strap to, and that'll prevent the exhaust from coming down too far.Now right behind the muffler, we're gonna have this rubber isolator that's really close to the rear axle.

I'm gonna go ahead and spray down that rubber isolator with some spray lubricant, I'm gonna take a pry bar and our main goal here is to pry that rubber isolator off so the exhaust will hang down.We can move back to the muffler where we took those bolts out. That bracket that's attached to the muffler where those bolts are going through, we're gonna lift up slightly on the muffler and then slide that bracket out. We're gonna wanna do that on both sides, but you wanna be careful because the exhaust is gonna start to lower down at that point. We can either slide that bracket off of the hanger here, or we can just pull the fascia out slightly to where we can get the hanger to the outside of the fascia. You wanna do that for both sides. Now we'll have plenty of room to get our hitch in place and reach the top of the frame here.In the passenger side only, we're gonna have this wire that's attached to the bottom of the frame, we're gonna wanna remove that pushpin so it'll be out of the way when we go to put our hitch in. Take a flat edge screw driver or trunk panel tool, and just pry it out of the frame, and push it aside for right now. Each side of the frame we're gonna have several holes in the bottom. We're gonna have one large hole, that's gonna be our access hole to get our hardware in and then on each side of that we'll have a few more round circular holes. The three small ones are gonna be our attachment points. In order to get our hardware in place, I'm gonna take our pull wire, I'm gonna take the coiled end, gonna put a bend in it, I'm gonna feed the coil then into the frame of our attachment point, and I'm gonna push it towards the access hole to where it comes out. Now it's important that you leave both ends sticking out of the frame, you don't want to pull it all the way through. Then we're gonna take one of our square hole spacer blocks, we'll slide it over our pull wire, then we're gonna take a carriage bolt and thread it onto the end of the wire. You wanna feed each piece into the frame one at a time, and we'll pull on our pull wire till the bolt drops down through. We're gonna repeat that for all of the other mounting locations on both sides of the frame. With an extra set of hands, we're gonna lift our hitch over the exhaust, you may need to pull down just a little bit, and then we're gonna put our pull wires through the holes in our hitch. There is gonna be an extra hole in the hitch, you wanna use the two oval holes towards the back. Lift it up until all the bolts come through the hitch, I'm gonna remove one of the bolt wires, then we're gonna take a kye 00:08:00 level 2 washer, I'm gonna make sure that the teeth are facing up towards the hitch, and then we'll secure down with a hex nut. You wanna make sure you get at least one nut onto each side so that the hitch will hold itself up. Sometimes it helps if you put the washer up and hold it with your finger, make it a lot easier to start the nut so it won't be moving around so much.I'm gonna come back with an 11/16th socket, and I'm gonna tighten up all my hardware. I'm gonna torque all my hardware down to the specified amount in the instructions. With our hitch torqued down, we can put our exhaust back up, so just like we took it out, we're gonna have to pull down on the fascia a little bit, and get the hanger and everything in place one side at a time, and then we can put all the hardware back in. Just wanna make sure that little tab on here lines up with the bracket so we can get our bolts back in place. Then we put the two fasteners back in place at the bottom of the fascia. Finally, we'll remove the support strap for the exhaust. That'll finish up your look at the Draw-tite Class III custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number 76419 on our 2019 Chevrolet Equinox.

So far so good. Installation wasnt too hard, but make sure you dont let the bolt and wire fall out after you have pushed in the metal support bracket... My product was missing 3 pieces when it arrived (1 support bracket and 2 nuts). I assume they fell out during shipping, the bag had a small hole in it and the box had multiple holes and openings they could have fallen out of. 637469

I have a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox and the hitch I bought for this car out under the bumper. The previous equinox had knock out piece for the hitch to be installed higher. The problem I have with hitch using my existing bike rack the rack can drag the ground with uneven grown or pavement. I welcome any suggestions. Ron Sadler 248-302-7553 636449

Purchased this hitch to install it on a 2018 GMC Terrain. I did not purchase it for the purpose of towing anything. I purchased it for attaching our Thule bike rack. I was not going to pay a GM dealership $350 plus $150 for installation to haul bicycles. I purchase what I needed from etrailer.com. I followed the simple video and installed it myself, without no one helping me in about 45 minutes. saved myself $372 and end up with a hitch that looks and works just the way I need it to. 619776

Very prompt shipment! The installation instructions were very good for a handy person with mechanical experience. A novice should leave installation to someone else. The fit was very, very good and no bending, redrilling, or modifications were needed. It is truly a pleasure to have something fit the first time! 439582

A little difficult to install, but not bad. High quality and tough construction is obvious. Hitch is lower than on previous generation Equinox, but this is not the hitch manufacturers fault. A riser may be needed to prevent groundings in certain applications. 483674

What can I say but this was the easiest trailer hitch install I've ever done. OK, this was the third one (85 S-10 blazer, 96 Astro van, and this is the third). Our 03 Envoy (traded it in for the Equinox) and 02 2500HD (still have) both have factory hitches. It was delivered by UPS ground late afternoon and by 6:30 I had it installed. Jacked up the rear of the Equinox, placed two jack stands and followed the instructions. I will say Watch The Video for the install and it is that easy. I chose this hitch as it required no grinding or enlarging of the holes as the other hitch (Curt model). The video was spot on. I did apply some antisieze on the bolts as I always assume I will need to remove it at some future time. There was written instructions that I did look through but they matched the video. I did not use a strap to hold the exhaust as the video and the instructions showed. I used a bungy cord and adjusted it for a similar drop as a strap. I wanted to do this as I felt I may need to drop exhaust even more than the instructions as I installed this by myself. If you have an available friend it will make it easier to hold the hitch in place and start a nut on each side rather than using both hands and one leg. Working with etrailer was easy. This order was delayed by another item I had bundled together with it. The email communication from etrailer was appropriate and let me know what was going on. The delay was not a real issue as we special ordered this car and it took about 6 weeks to arrive. We keep our vehicles forever (still have the S-10 and the Astro) and I look forward to this hitch providing us years of trouble free service. I was quite impressed with the craftsmanship on this hitch, the welds were perfect. The entire hitch except where the receiver goes in is hidden behind the rear valence. Thank you etrailer! 398111

Follow up one yesterday later, nothing to add to above review except occasionally when I am fully loaded the bottom of the receiver will drag as I go in and out of my driveway. This is because of the way the city has the curb cutfor driveways and it is abrupt. If I go out slow it doesnt it but ocasionly I will forget. When empty it doesnt do it. The hitch is sturdy enough all that has happened is paint scraped off the bottom of the receiver.

This is a quality product. Very easy to install. If you have any mechanical ability you should be able to do it yourself. If you have a hoist I'm sure you could do it in 40 minutes as the web site says. However, I backed my car onto a couple of car ramps and laid on my garage floor and installed. Took me about 1.5 hrs. I would like to see a little better packaging. My hitch was "poking" out of 3 holes in the shipping box. Everything was ok but was concerned when I got the box. Overall, a great product, highly recommend. 603991

Nice hitch, easy install according to the instructions and fit perfectly. I like that the cross tube is all hidden up behind the bumper, so the receiver tube is the only part exposed. Seems very strong and much heavier duty than this little vehicle needs for towing, but I think that will mean it's rigid and good for mounting things like racks and carriers without a lot of bounce and flex. The final position is relatively low, but that is just a function of clearing the bottom of the bumper. 453528

Second hitch ordered from ETrailer, they are the way to go. Installation went well, I used two floor jacks to hold the hitch in place while I started threading the nuts. It would be nearly impossible to do this alone without jacks. The hitch is too heavy when you are on your back to negotiate the nuts and bolts and keep everything in alignment. You need to fully drop the muffler like the video shows to get this up there. The hitch receiver does hang down lower than expected, but it is about as tight as possible to the vehicle without cutting the bumper. 549848

I installed the Draw-Tite hitch #76419 yesterday. I watched the video which was very instructive on how to install it. It took a little longer than stated but I did it by myself and with no hoist. Everything fit together as shown with no problems. Tomorrow I plan on installing the wire harness. This is the second hitch I have purchased through etrailer and would give you TWO Thumbs up in all aspects of your business. 595274

Hitch looks great and the install was just as the video shows, you need to people to hold it in place. Also plan on it taking double the install time unless you have a lift. I will definitely be ordering from here if I need another hitch. 559664

TLDR - 5 stars on customer service and response. 1 star on shipping packaging and initial product. If I could give 4.5 stars overall I would. I have a 2019 Chevy Equinox LT that I bought about two months ago. I wanted a tow hitch installed from the dealer, but I am glad I didn't buy it from them. The dealer wanted over $500 for the hitch and install. I did a ton of research, and it all kept leading back to etrailer.com. The website didn't show any hitches available for my year, but I did find a customer service thread talking about my SUV showing everything I needed along with part numbers. I ordered the hitch and wiring harness, and I received a shipping email the same day. Tracking said it would take five days, but I received it in three via UPS. The package was damaged with a large hole in the middle of the box. I took pictures of the whole box before I opened it and immediately emailed customer support of etrailer. Mind you, this was on a Saturday, and I wasn't expecting a response until Monday morning. To my surprise I received a response within 15 minutes, and also provided a direct email and phone number for use. Customer service asked for me to open the package and inspect the hitch. Unfortunately, the hitch was damaged quite a bit. I am not quite sure how this particular item could have passed any type of quality control. There were large scratches that looked like impact areas that went down to bare metal in several areas on the item. These impacts did not match the damage on the shipping box, so it was quite clear that they were from before the unit was shipped. There were also impact and drag marks that looked to have been caused during shipping that coincided with the box damage. Also, one of the holes that were to be used to mount the hitch to the SUV was not fully cut out and would have been very difficult to complete without heavy duty tools. I took more pictures and responded to the email that I had been provided with. Within 15 minutes customer service responded that they apologized for the damaged hitch and would be providing a return shipping label and immediately shipping a new hitch. I received the shipping label almost immediately, and the shipping notification first thing on Monday morning. I received the new hitch on Thursday morning. There was slight damage to the shipping box and to the paint on the edges of the crossbar where it looked like it may have been dropped or dragged during shipping. Installation was extremely easy. I am lucky and have a friend that has a car lift that I can use. I followed the install video that is on the hitch webpage of etrailer. I added some anti-seize compound to the bolts just in case, and I highly recommend doing so for everyone. I also added some primer and paint onto areas that were damaged during shipping to reduce the chance of rust in the future. The hitch fit perfectly and looks great on my SUV. Picture attached for reference. 581978

In the past I had always spliced-in the wires when installing wiring for a trailer hitch on a vehicle, but never again after seeing how simple this kit makes the job. With weather proof connectors that snap together, it will be much more reliable than the old splice method. And, it is impossible to wire it incorrectly, which could happen when you're looking for the right wire to splice into (or so I've heard). 720924

My hitch went togather on my 2018 chevy equinox like clockwork, your instructions were great! This little car with 4 people on a ski trip to Red River, NM from East Texas just didn't have enough inside room for all luggage and coolers! This hitch and a cargo carrier with a cover really solved my problem! No electrical wiring needed ,as it isn't considered a trailer. 715164

This is the 3rd order from etrailer and have never had a problem. The hitch was easy to install but you will need two people to hold the hitch in place while you put a couple bolts in place to secure it. I do not have a lift but using a jack and some stands will work just as well. My son and I were able to install it in just about 75 minutes. The online videos were perfect and document each step of the process. I also purchased a light kit as well but did not have the chance to install that yet. I will be doing that down the road and will let you know how I make out. 693984

You definitely need to be mechanically inclined to install this. The muffler was the hardest part to move. The instructions are not specifically for your car. There's was more hangers on my vehicle than in the instructions. Was not that hard to install. Nice look and does the job. 690661

Chevrolet Equinox

Exactly as advertised. Like other reviewers stated, the box was damaged, but not badly, and certainly not bad enough to damage the thick steel. The clearance on the equinox is pretty low and this may be an issue for me long term, but I am very pleased. 640804

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Is there a Trailer Hitch for a 2018 Chevy Equinox that Fits in the Same Place as the Factory Hitch
  • No, in this case the aftermarket hitches for the 2018 Chevy Equinox do not mirror the location of the factory hitch. Like you said the receiver on all the available options is below the rear fascia. The benefit though of an aftermarket hitch is that the hitch itself will be less than half the MSRP on the factory hitch and that does not include labor to have it installed if you choose to have the dealer install it. And the draw-back of the aftermarket hitches is limited ground clearance. If...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2019 Chevy Equinox
  • The Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 76419 is an excellent trailer hitch for your 2019 Chevy Equinox! For wiring there are a few different options depending on what exactly you have but I do recommend going with a Tekonsha T-One wiring harness as we have found that they have the most reliable trailer wiring out there. If you have the tow package on your Equinox then you need the T-One # 118285. If you don't have the tow package then you need the T-One # 118759 for the Premier or the T-One # 118750...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring for 2018 Chevy Equinox
  • There are indeed two Class III trailer hitches available that are confirmed to fit your 2018 Chevy Equinox (as long as you don't have the Diesel model). Both the Curt # C13307 and the Draw-Tite # 76419 will have very similar installation processes, as you noted, and will provide you with a 2 inch receiver opening. Between the two models, I recommend going with the Draw-Tite Class III # 76419 for a couple of reasons. First, the Draw-Tite hitch actually features a higher towing weight...

  • Best Trailer Hitch To Use with Cargo Carrier and Bike Rack on a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox
  • We currently have two class III trailer hitch options for a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox (Excluding Diesel), the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76419 and the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13307. I recommend the Curt hitch because only the receiver tube portion is shown which makes for a much cleaner look once installed. I have attached a photo of this for you as well as a sample install video. If you don't already have a bike rack or cargo carrier, the 48x32 Lets Go...

  • Trailer Hitch for 2018 Chevy Equinox With Gas Engine
  • There is a trailer hitch available for your 2018 Chevy Equinox but the Draw-Tite # 76217 will NOT fit unless you have a diesel engine. For your '18 Equinox I recommend checking out the Draw-Tite # 76419 which fits directly below your bumper; you can check out how it will look in the accompanying photo. This hitch will give you approximately 9 inches of clearance from the ground to the bottom of the receiver. For wiring which will give you a 4-way connector and allow you to power your...

  • 2 inch Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2018 GMC Terrain without Drilling
  • The 2 inch hitches we offer for your 2018 GMC Terrain don't require any drilling to install. The Draw Tite part # 76419 is a great fit for your vehicle if you have the gas engine. If instead you have a diesel engine you'd want the part # 76217. Both require no frame drilling but the diesel engine version does require some fascia trimming that's not noticeable. I attached a picture that shows the trimmed area.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver Compatible with 2018 Chevy Equinox
  • The trailer hitch for your 2014 Chevy Equinox, will fit models from 2005 through 2017. 2018 models had a different frame, so I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 76419 or the 1-1/4 inch # 36642 which is a confirmed fit for the 2018 model year. For your wiring, I recommend # 118285 if you get the tow package or # 118750 if you don't have the tow package. I've linked some videos to assist. If you get the 1-1/4 inch receiver, you...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for 2018 Chevrolet Equinox Premier Model
  • For your 2018 Chevy Equinox Premier there are a few options for a trailer wiring harness. If you don't have the factory tow package then you can use the Tekonsaha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118759. This harness will install to the factory harness located behind each tail light and will draw power directly from your vehicle battery. This will protect your factory wiring and electronics from overload by drawing the needed power for the modulite converter...

  • Hitch Height of Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch When Installed on a 2018 Chevy Equinox
  • When we installed the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36642 on a 2018 Chevy Equinox we found that from the ground to the top inside of the hitch receiver measured 11". Since you are looking to use a cargo carrier I recommend using the 2" hitch receiver # 76419 instead because it gives you a lot more options when it comes to using a cargo carrier. The ground clearance for this was 10-7/8" when we installed it on a 2018 Equinox. These are your best options for ground clearance with a trailer...

  • How to Tell if you Have the Factory Towing Package 2018 Chevrolet Equinox
  • I do have a few items you can look for that will give you an idea as to whether or not your 2018 Chevrolet Equinox came equipped with the factory tow package (K5L) or not but the only sure fire way to tell would be to obtain your VIN and contact the dealer as they would be able to confirm if your vehicle came equipped with the factory tow package. From my research, the factory towing package on your 2018 Chevrolet Equinox came with a transmission and engine oil cooler. Therefore, if...

  • There is a wiring harness for your 2019 GMC Terrain, though as of this writing (August 2019) there is not an option from Curt. This is made by Tekonsha which is regarded by many as having the most reliable wiring harnesses in the industry so you will be getting a great product. • Trailer Hitch Fit Recommendation for 2018 Chevy Equinox
  • There were enough changes to the 2018 Chevy Equinox that Draw Tite had to create a new hitch for it. For that they made the part # 76419 which does not fit a 2017 model Equinox. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. • Trailer Hitch Fit for 2019 Chevy Equinox Diesel
  • For a 2019 Chevy Equinox Diesel the trailer hitch you need is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 76217, which is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver, 4,500 lb towing capacity and 675 lb tongue weight capacity. The hitch you referenced, part # 76419, is not a fit for a Diesel because it would interfere with the urea tank. • Since the Class III Draw-Tite hitch # 76419 on your 2019 Chevy Equinox measures 11 inches to the top of the receiver and the bottom of your utility trailer's coupler is 16 inches you will need a ball mount that gives you 5 inches of rise. For that you can use the Draw-Tite Ball Mount # 40346, which will fit your 2 inch receiver and has plenty of capacity at 6,000 lbs. If you have the diesel model, then I instead recommend the Draw-Tite # 76217. The towing capacity is dependent on your engine.
